A great place to go and and even greater one to escape the humid Barcelona heat is the ice bar. Fortunately for us we were provided with warm clothing, hats and gloves (house standard and courtesy) to withstand the freezing temperatures inside. This is one cool way to enjoy an ice cool Mojito, I can tell you! The Ice Bar Barcelona is great and totally awesome. A blue light fills the whole bar made entirely of ice: the chairs, the glasses, the tables… Everything is is made of ice!
Mondrian Hotel
Despite its name, this 335-room hotel on West Avenue is several blocks from the South Beach melee. What the curved tower lacks in SoBe Deco charm it more than makes up for with a Biscayne Bay view and Marcel Wanders’s surreal decor. His theme is Sleeping Beauty’s castle, which would be pretentious were it not transfixing: Giant chess-piece pillars grace the glossy white lobby; a black filigree staircase sweeps up from the bar area; and the beauty, presumably—a manga-style cartoon waif—pops up everywhere from the lobby to the suites. Pool cabanas, with Louis XVI chairs and piles of cushions, look like stage sets, and rooms have a monochrome palette and the odd splash of yellow in the form of a Droog (Wanders’s design firm) armchair or sofa. The Sunset Lounge joins the usual Morgans Hotel Group staples: an Asia de Cuba restaurant and an Agua spa.
Shoreclub Hotel
Designed by famed British architect David Chipperfield, with landscaping inspired by the rich Matisse-like palette of the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, Shore Club shimmers with intrigue and sensuality. The hotel leads South Beach’s social scene with Sunday pool parties, headlining acts at Red Room and late night gatherings. The vibrant atmosphere in the landmarked Art Deco lobby leads to a labyrinth of gardens, where secret passageways, alcoves and a succession of outdoor ‘rooms’ conspire to create an atmosphere of unexpected encounters and close interaction. Anchored by the original polished terrazzo floor, the elegant furnishings are an eclectic mix evocative of global marketplaces—including relaxed sofas, tufted floor cushions, hand-woven tribal rugs and large patterned throw pillows from Kenya that invite mixing and mingling. The vibe is lively, the atmosphere intimate, the feeling electric.
The Delano Hotel
Located in the heart of South Beach and directly on the ocean, Delano is the ultimate world-class urban resort hotel and self-contained destination. In a completely original manipulation of space that blurs all “normal” distinctions, Delano boasts the first Indoor/Outdoor lobby, offering a seamless flow between a series of unique indoor and outdoor environments. Nine beautifully conceived areas are each distinct in form and function, yet together create the feel of an interwoven village where guests can find both a wealth of activity and a peaceful haven. Philippe Starck has assembled a stunning international collection of furniture and objects, including works from such renowned artists as Antonio Gaudi, Man Ray, Charles and Ray Eames, Salvador Dali and Mark Newson.

Large chandeliers, oversized velvet chairs, textured woods, and metallic accents of brass, bronze, and nickel fill La Marea; its menu showcases local produce and seafood. “The personalized service was top-notch.”
The Dutch
The Dutch is an American restaurant, bar and oyster room inspired by local cafes, country inns, corner taverns, neighborhood bistros, seaside shacks, roadside joints and the same mix of cultural influences that make Miami Beach great. Award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini’s roots-inspired American menu features fresh fish and shellfish, choice meats, local produce and the best of what’s around. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, the high-ceilinged 170-seat indoor-outdoor restaurant and oyster bar is outfitted with light oak floors, white painted brick walls, a zinc-top liquor bar and driftwood beams overhead making for a light, airy space that fills with daily bustle and flow.
