Modern Design Marrakesh
La Renaissance
In the 1950s and 60s, the sophisticated Moroccan elite from Rabat and Casablanca would flock to the majestic La Renaissance in the commercial area of Gueliz, only steps away from the legendary Souk Medina. There they would mingle with guests from all across the globe. Yet, until the design team began to breathe new life into the historic space, it had become a ghost of its former self. Now, their signature blend of high-end East-meets-West elegance refurnishes the classic building’s 35 rooms and 10 suites, returning it to its heyday.
Lovers of fine food will appreciate the revival of Hotel La Renaissance and the introduction of its twin restaurants and two cocktail lounges into Marrakech’s sparkling social scene. “La Brasserie” and “Aqua Pazza” bring the best cuisine of France and Italy to a classically Moroccan setting. At Aqua Pazza, guests can savor European culinary delights, while feasting on the unique and unspoiled view of the city and the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. As the tallest building in Marrakech, Hotel La Renaissance provides guests with the best view of the creatively bubbling cityscape.
Hotel La Renaissance’s design concept and social spaces gracefully draw upon its own history as a hive of European and North African glamour. By reviving the iconic focal point for Marrakech’s chic social life, the re-opening of Hotel La Renaissance guarantees a new surge of life and fresh delights to Morocco’s inspiring capital.

Amanjena (peaceful paradise) is the first Aman resort on the African continent and is located just outside the ancient city of Marrakech. Set within an oasis of palms and olive trees, Moorish heritage is reflected throughout the pisé-walled resort, including the pavilions that radiate out from an ancient bassin, echoing the style of a sultan’s palace. Amanjena offers a variety of guided excursions on foot, bicycle or private car into the medina, the souk and squares, palaces, gardens and craft shops of ancient Marrakech.

Anayela Hotel
Located in the heart of the Medina, or historic city, of Marrakech, the AnaYela is surrounded on all sides by the bustling souks, cafes and nightclubs of the lively Red City. Housed in a 300-year-old palace, the hotel is named for a former occupant, a girl named Yela who left behind an intimate journal in one of its secret rooms. The hotel name translates literally to “I Am Yela,” and everything in it references the life and times of its past dweller. One of Morocco’s most renowned calligraphers even hammered the girl’s story in silver onto the vast doors scattered throughout the premises so that guests can stroll through the house and “read” them like pages in a storybook.
The building itself is an homage to Moroccan history – in particular, local architecture and design. Its restoration was conducted using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, with over 100 artisans performing the work completely by hand, without the help of a single electric tool. Similarly, each piece of furniture and ornamentation was personally designed by owner Bernd Kolb and designer Yannick Hervy and then handcrafted by a team of Moroccan artisans.
Inside, the AnaYela contains just three double rooms and two suites, meaning guests are assured a luxuriously intimate and exclusive experience. Each room is individually decorated, and the suites come with brick-built baths for two. Services range from in-room massage to on-site henna painting, and facilities include a restaurant serving traditional Moroccan cuisine, 24-hour snack bar, multiple lounge areas and several conference spaces, including an open-air cinema and two salons.
Ariha Riad
A completely restored home in the quiet residential area of the old city (Medina), Riad Ariha has the peaceful feeling of the past combined with modern comfort. The atmosphere is one of harmony, simplicity and relaxation. Furnishings are simple yet elegant. The riad has a inner courtyard fountain, a dipping pool with a wall fountain to refresh you during the warmer days. The Salon has a fireplace for the cooler months.
The riad has 5 bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom with shower.
In one bathroom that has both a shower and a bathtub, you can recline in the bathtub and admire the dome above with light filtered through the glass stars. The Riad has also a roof terrace, Hammam, Moroccan cuisine and beautiful views from every angle. Each room is air conditioned for the summer heat, and has heating for the cooler winter evenings.
Pleasure Palace
Fashion designer Liza Bruce and her husband, artist Nicholas Alvis Vega, lead the life of high-style nomads. The jet-setting couple have amassed a global collection of homes—from a flat in London’s Notting Hill, to a palazzo apartment in Jaipur, to a group of beach bungalows in Puglia, Italy—that they have furnished with a worldly sensibility and a near-cinematic eye for design. “We refer to our houses as film sets without the film,” Bruce says. “We’re driven to create the perfect hideaway.”
The jewel in their crown—the home that Vega calls their “pleasure palace”—is a three-story house in Morocco complete with gardens, terraces, a swimming pool, and a hammam steam bath. Bruce, who made her name in the 1980s with an innovative line of Lycra swimwear, now sells her fashions in her London boutique. In 2003, she began traveling to Marrakech to create a collection of embroidered caftans. After several trips, she and her husband—an inseparable pair who met as teenagers in 1968— decided to establish a permanent base in Morocco.
